Jane Has Left Our Stage (posted on behalf of Hugh King and the Bridport Co-Housing Community)

A keen memory of Jane is her infectious grin,
plus the nonstop energy of one so wiry and thin.
She was a human dynamo, quite unlike any other,
a loyal friend, a grandma, a compassionate mother.
She rambled and gardened and really liked singing.
Through her mind and soul great music was ringing.
An independent traveller, a keen dinghy sailor,
brimming with enthusiasm, you couldn’t contain her.

If something was on her mind she wouldn’t hold back,
for of ideas and opinions she suffered no lack.
Sometimes frustrated by her lack of hearing
she still was a champion at volunteering.
She might frown and look exasperated,
then calm down, relax, reveal a warmhearted
and generous nature that left bygones behind,
for ‘Polytunnel Jane’ could be wonderfully kind.

She’s gone from us now without any warning,
no drawnout departure, no preprimed mourning.
No slow decline of a livewire, the inexorable slide,
no, she skipped all that and checked out on a ride.
She whizzed along on her bike aiming for the beach.
Remember her joy; consider that within everyone’s reach
there’s joy to be felt, as ready to pick as a ripe juicy peach.
Now we salute you, dear Jane, and we bid you adieu,
trusting where you are now, you enjoy a clear view.
