Remembering Jane (posted on behalf of the Norton family)

I know I won't be the only person to say that Jane Taylor played
a very important role in my life and that of my family. I can still picture the
day when, in 1964 - having recently moved to Wimbledon and knowing no one -
John recognized Jane, who he'd known in Egypt since the age of 2, walking down
the street. We stopped the car, discovered that she lived not far away and that
she had a son born the same day, same year, as our James. Over the next few
years we became firm friends and Jane introduced me to so many other local
people who greatly enhanced our lives. When a good sized house came up for sale
in Dora Road, almost opposite Jane and Peter, we bought it and our lives became
even more entwined. As well as sharing many activities and celebrations our two
growing families also delighted in some idyllic visits to the cottage in Wales
and wonderful explorations of the Brecon Beacons.

We moved on but never apart, visiting Jane and Peter in Weymouth
- we still have plants in our garden which started life in theirs and survived
the transplant to ours.

Since Peter's death we've enjoyed Jane's solo visits to Wimbledon
and I've been particularly interested in following her plans and involvement in
the co-housing development. It's just so sad she won't be there to move in when
it finally comes to fruition.

I have always been aware, and full of admiration for, the many
impressive strands of her rich life. I am sure you will hear from so many
people who have benefited from her friendship, and generosity in so many different
ways and that you and your children will be comforted by the knowledge that her
life was of such great value to so many
of us.

Our love and our thoughts are with you.

John, Dianne and the Norton family.
